So after a year off to fight
Monkey
Boy in Florida,
I was back to my standard role "'Deep, maker of ridiculous & grand
Halloween Costumes"..... I couldn't come up w/ a new costume I liked so
I decided to make a better version of an old one.....
I'm all about dancing; I'm all about DJing (sanctioned musical imperialism!);
I'm all about doing fun things in large groups;.... and then there is that whole
getting-attention thing.... thus I'm beginning to think that the Disco Ball
is the most perfect 'Deep costume ever. I can't tell you how much fun it was
to create impromptu mini-dance parties wherever I went.....(& in fact it
has inspired me to try to make a flash-mob dance
party)....
Here is some video from Castro Street - unfortunately I was so busy having fun, I didn't get enough really good video footage.
Sadly, the movie doesn't give you a sense of how good (& loud) the sound system is......
Unlike Disco Ball 2.0 * (though 1.0 barely counts as a Disco Ball), this was made of poured styrofoam rather than paper mache & had a MUCH better arrangement of the sound system which made it sound a whole lot better. It was supposed to look 10x better & be 50% easier too... well it looked a bit better.... but it was just as hard... perhaps harder...& much more expensive: foam = expensive. Major mistakes with foam are even more so.... Foam explosions, implosions, and debris have left my house more like a Superfund site than a domicile... but in the end I'm glad I did because it was SOOOOO much fun & I think the Saturday before Halloween was one of the most fun nights of my life....
Highlights:
* By the way - a year ago a group of folks from Australia contacted me to make a series of Disco Ball 2.0's for a party... here is a GREAT video (Nathan you are awesome!)
Unfortunately I was too busy to take pix of all the
other great costumes I saw this year, but some of my favorite costumes were
Peat & Amy's Ball & Chain & Catherine & Michelle's X-Men...
